Ceramic Crush

Confession: ceramics might just be my favorite home goods. They signal a certain adulthood, a big “made it” stamp that trumps small appliances and fancy linens.

In true millennial fashion of organization, I follow at least 20 ceramics brands on Instagram, and have developed the almost entirely useless skill of being able to tell them apart from unlabeled photographs. Imagine my surprise when I came across a picture of a matte black stack of whisper thin plates… and could not place it?

(Could it be? Are there still mysteries in the world?)

Turns out, it’s from expert glassware brand Libbey’s ceramics diffusion line, Drift. They say it’s “born of earth, fire, and light,” and when I got done swooning over that romantic notion, I realized that this under the radar brand of handmade ceramics was everything I’d been looking for.

Drift is handcrafted, imperfectly edged, and razor thin, and the dark black glaze is so chic I could scream. It’s the kind of dishware that begs for you to plate with swoops of bright sauces and maybe an edible flower, whispering in your ear that a set of these is all you need to be a food blogger.

I am not a food blogger. My sauce swoops are not photogenic. But I consider myself an expert on lusting after the details that make spaces special and homes warm, and let me tell you: do not sleep on these treasures.
