One of the first design details that crystallized for our Yucca house was the paint finish. After I stumbled across Portola Paints on Instagram, I knew that their softy textured, organic-feeling Lime Wash was a must— it made a huge difference in the texture of spaces, and the overall feel.

Since so much of the Yucca project was a massive renovation, we deferred to the pros, but painting? Painting was something we were excited to do ourselves. Armed with Portola’s YouTube channel and a bottle* of natural wine, we set out to paint our newly finished walls. Here’s how they turned out.

The green and black kitchen is brightened up with Portola’s Lime Wash in “Antlers”, a soft taupe that warms up the dark room.

The guest bedroom was a two-tone experiment, with half the room in rich red “Merida” and the other in bright orange “El Coyote.”

The master bedroom became a moody, cozy hideaway thanks to “Guru.”

(Including a not-so-beautiful progress pic so you can see the journey— the Lime Wash freaked us out a little in process, but ended up looking great once it was dry.)

And finally, the garden guest room got a dose of golden glow with Portola’s “Mission.” We noticed that the bask of sunlight really makes the light-colored finish stand out.
